Risen Savior Lutheran Church background

October 31 online worship

Everything you need for October 31 online worship.

Preparations for Worship:

  • Do your best to eliminate distractions like the phone, TV, etc.
  • Worship actively! Whether you are by yourself or with others, try reading the parts of the service aloud (responses, lessons, and prayers).
  • This service is for children too. Help them participate. Ask those who have that ability to read a prayer or lesson aloud. Take a moment to describe what’s happening. Ask questions. Encourage little ones to draw what they are hearing while you all listen. Unlike our more typical Sunday worship at church, you can pause at any time for questions and discussion.
  • Before you begin, load each of the videos below. (You might first have to get past a distracting ad.)
  • Pause for a moment of quiet meditation. Then pray:
“Heavenly Father, I have come to worship you. Draw near to me in your gracious Word, and assure me of your loving kindness. Curb my wandering thoughts, that with undivided attention I may hear your voice and speak your praise. Through Jesus Christ. Amen.”

CONFESSION OF SINS

The grace of our Lord (+) Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. And also with you.

We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve him as his dear children.  But we have disobeyed him and deserve only his wrath and punishment.  Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy.

Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth.  In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child.  But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love.  Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt.

God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins.  By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, he has removed your guilt forever.  You are his own dear child.  May God give you strength to live according to his will. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Gracious Lord, our refuge and strength, pour out your Holy Spirit on your faithful people. Keep them steadfast in your Word, protect and comfort them in all temptations, defend them against all their enemies, and bestow on the Church your saving peace; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

LESSON – JEREMIAH 18:1-11

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: 2“Get up, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will reveal my words to you.”  3So I went down to the potter’s house, and he was making something on the wheel. 4But the pot he was forming out of the clay was ruined as he shaped it with his hands, so the potter formed it into a different pot, whatever he saw fit to make.  5Then the word of the Lord came to me.  6House of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does? declares the Lord. See, like clay in the potter’s hands, that is what you are in my hands, house of Israel. 7One time I may say that a nation or a kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down, and destroyed, 8but if that nation I spoke about repents of its evil, then I will relent and not bring the disaster I had planned to bring against it. 9Another time I may say that a nation or a kingdom is to be built and planted, 10but if they do what is evil in my sight by not listening to my voice, then I will not bring about the good I said I would do for them.

11Now therefore say this to the men of Judah and to those who live in Jerusalem. This is what the Lord says. Look! I am forming a disaster against you. I am devising a plan against you. Turn from your evil ways, each of you, and reform your ways and your actions.

LESSON – REVELATION 14:6-7

6Then I saw another angel flying in the middle of the sky. He had the everlasting gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth, to every nation, tribe, language, and people. 7He said with a loud voice: Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come.   Worship him who made the sky, the earth, the sea, and the springs of water.

DEVOTION – MARK 13:5-11

CONFESSION OF FAITH

I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.  He descended into hell.  The third day he rose again from the dead.  He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.  From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH

Gracious heavenly Father, we thank You for the comfort of the Gospel restored to Your Church on earth through the work of Martin Luther and other faithful pastors and leaders during the Reformation. We praise You that by Your rich grace we have come to the sure knowledge that we stand justified before You, not by what we have done, but rather by faith in what Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, has done on our behalf. We implore You, defend Your Church from all enemies of Your saving Word.

Cause Your eternal Gospel to be proclaimed in our time to every nation, tribe, language and people on earth, and graciously preserve Your truth for generations to come.

Lord, make us truly Your disciples. Keep us in Your Word, free us from all errors, and make our homes and families peaceful.

Preserve all fathers and encourage them for their godly task, that children would be brought up in the fear and instruction of the Lord.

Lord God, as we mark the Lutheran Reformation, we pray that you would bring about a reformation in the hearts of many on the San Carlos Apache Reservation. Bless Our Savior Lutheran Church and School there, that it may train many children in the truths of your Word. Keep what they learn from Scriptures in their hearts throughout their lives until you take them to heaven. Bless the work of the teachers and the construction of the new teacher’s house.

Lead many Apaches to desire to serve you by becoming pastors and teachers.

Hear our prayers for the sick, the joyful and those in any need especially friend of Nancy Rongstad who is in the hospital.

Answer their prayers, preserve them by Your promises and bring them safely through this world to everlasting life.

Lord God, heavenly Father, we thank You that You have brought us by Your Word out of the darkness of error and into the light of Your grace. Mercifully help us to walk in that light. Guard us from error and false doctrine, and grant that we do not become ungrateful and despise Your Word, but receive it with all our heart, conduct our lives according to it and put our trust in Your grace; through the merits of Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

THE LORD’S BLESSING

Brothers and sisters, go in peace.  Live in harmony with one another.  Serve the Lord with gladness.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace. Amen.
