Risen Savior Lutheran Church background

October 23 online worship

Everything you need for October 23 online worship.

Preparations for Worship:

  • Do your best to eliminate distractions like the phone, TV, etc.
  • Worship actively! Whether you are by yourself or with others, try reading the parts of the service aloud (responses, lessons, and prayers).
  • This service is for children too. Help them participate. Ask those who have that ability to read a prayer or lesson aloud. Take a moment to describe what’s happening. Ask questions. Encourage little ones to draw what they are hearing while you all listen. Unlike our more typical Sunday worship at church, you can pause at any time for questions and discussion.
  • Before you begin, load each of the videos below. (You might first have to get past a distracting ad.)
  • Pause for a moment of quiet meditation. Then pray:
“Heavenly Father, I have come to worship you. Draw near to me in your gracious Word, and assure me of your loving kindness. Curb my wandering thoughts, that with undivided attention I may hear your voice and speak your praise. Through Jesus Christ. Amen.”

O Lord, open my lips. And my mouth shall declare your praise.

Hasten to save me, O God. O Lord, come quickly to help me.

The glory of Christ is revealed: let us worship him.

Lord, we pray that your mercy and grace may always go before and follow after us that, loving you with undivided hearts, we may be ready for every good and useful work; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Lord, keep your household, the church, in continual godliness, and set us free from all adversities that, under your protection, we may serve you with true devotion and holy deeds; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen

LESSON – 1 JOHN 2:15-17

15Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, boasting about material possessions—is not from the Father but from the world. 17The world and its desires pass away, but the one who does the will of God remains forever.

GOSPEL – LUKE 18:18-30

18A certain ruler asked Jesus, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”  19Jesus asked him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good, except one—God. 20You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery. You shall not murder. You shall not steal. You shall not give false testimony. Honor your father and mother.’ ”  21“I have kept all these since I was a child,” he said.  22When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”  23But when the ruler heard these words, he became very sad, because he was very rich.  24When Jesus saw that the man became very sad, he said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! 25In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”  26Those who heard this said, “Then who can be saved?”  27He replied, “What is impossible for people is possible for God.”  28And Peter said, “Look, we have left our possessions and followed you.”  29He said to them, “Amen I tell you: Anyone who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30will most certainly receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come, eternal life.”

DEVOTION – DEUTERONOMY 10:12-22

OFFERING

Offerings may be given on-line at tithe.ly/risensavior, mailed to the church, or dropped off at the church.

Our members have joined together in faith and love to do the Lord’s work in this community and around the world.  Guests need not feel obligated to participate in this offering which supports our ministry.

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH

Almighty Father, we come to You at the gracious invitation of Your Son. May we receive Your gifts as little children, that no rebuke of our sinful flesh, the world or the devil would deter us from turning to You in repentance.

Grant us humility to pray, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.”

As Your Son welcomed infants, give us a deep care for the children entrusted to us, that we would defend their lives even before birth. Instill in parents a desire and commitment to bring their little children to Jesus. Use our Sunday school, Bible classes and youth catechism to preserve them in the faith.

Teach each of us in humility to receive the kingdom of God like a little child.

Lord God, heavenly Father, we praise you for calling two new missionaries to the Latin American missionary team. Direct many people to participate in the Academia Cristo courses that will be taught and bring them to the knowledge that you are a gracious God and that salvation is by faith in Christ and not in their works. Lead students to reach out to others and be instrumental in starting many new congregations all over Latin America.

Be with and bless the work of leading Hispanics in the United States to enroll in the courses and become spiritual leaders in their communities.

O Lord, You do not delight in wickedness or let the boastful stand before You. Give the leaders of the nations wisdom to govern in accordance with Your will.

Keep them mindful of the stewardship that they hold on behalf of others, that they may fulfill their duties with diligence and humility.

Lord God, we give you thanks for the marriage ceremony of Matthew Semmler and Krista Jackson yesterday.  We praise you for bringing them to each other and for guiding them to make this commitment.

Bless their life together and grant them grace in abundance.

God of mercy, we praise You that You deliver our souls from death and our feet from falling. Care for those who are near death. Preserve them from despair, and give them a confident hope in the resurrection promises of our risen Lord.

Come to the aid of everyone in need.

O Lord, if we trust in ourselves for righteousness, we are lost and dead in our sins. Yet You mercifully draw us to Yourself in repentance and hear the cries of those who trust in Your Son. Grant us humility, that we may not exalt ourselves or treat our brothers and sisters with contempt. Rescue us from every evil, and bring us into Your kingdom as Your beloved children. To You alone be all glory, our Savior, who taught us to pray…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, you have brought us safely to this new day.  Defend us with your mighty power, and grant that this day we neither fall into sin nor run into any kind of danger; and in all we do, direct us to what is right in your sight, through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord.  Amen.

Let us praise the Lord.  Thanks be to God.

THE LORD’S BLESSING

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.  Amen.
