Risen Savior Lutheran Church background

October 22 online worship

Everything you need for October 22 online worship.

Preparations for Worship:

  • Do your best to eliminate distractions like the phone, TV, etc.
  • Worship actively! Whether you are by yourself or with others, try reading the parts of the service aloud (responses, lessons, and prayers).
  • This service is for children too. Help them participate. Ask those who have that ability to read a prayer or lesson aloud. Take a moment to describe what’s happening. Ask questions. Encourage little ones to draw what they are hearing while you all listen. Unlike our more typical Sunday worship at church, you can pause at any time for questions and discussion.
  • Before you begin, load each of the videos below. (You might first have to get past a distracting ad.)
  • Pause for a moment of quiet meditation. Then pray:
“Heavenly Father, I have come to worship you. Draw near to me in your gracious Word, and assure me of your loving kindness. Curb my wandering thoughts, that with undivided attention I may hear your voice and speak your praise. Through Jesus Christ. Amen.”

INVOCATION

O Lord, open my lips. And my mouth shall declare your praise.

Hasten to save me, O God. O Lord, come quickly to help me.

The glory of Christ is revealed: let us worship him.

Lord, we pray that your mercy and grace may always go before and follow after us that, loving you with undivided hearts, we may be ready for every good and useful work; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Almighty God and Savior, you have set the final day and hour when we shall be delivered from this world of sin and death. Keep us ever watchful for the coming of your Son that we may sit with him and all your holy ones at the marriage feast in heaven; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen.

LESSON – ISAIAH 52:1-6

Wake, awake!  Clothe yourself with strength, O Zion.  Put on your beautiful garments, Jerusalem, you holy city, for never again will the uncircumcised and the unclean enter you.  2Shake off the dust.  Get up and take your seat, Jerusalem.  Loosen the chains from your neck, you captive daughter of Zion.  3Yes, this is what the Lord says.  You were sold for nothing, and you will be redeemed without money.  4Yes, this is what the Lord God says.  In the beginning, my people went down to Egypt to stay there for a while.  Later Assyria oppressed them without cause.  5Now what do I have here? declares the Lord.  Indeed, my people have been taken away for nothing.  Their rulers howl with mockery, declares the Lord.  My name is continually despised all day.  6Therefore my people will know my name.  So on that day they will know that I am the one—the one who is saying, “Here I am!”

LESSON – 1 THESSALONIANS 5:1-11

Concerning the times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you, 2for you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3When people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will suddenly come on them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will certainly not escape. 4But you, brothers, are not in the dark so that this day takes you by surprise like a thief, 5for you are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness. 6So then let us not sleep like everyone else, but rather let us remain alert and sober.

7To be sure, those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9You see, God did not appoint us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10He died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up, just as you are also doing.

DEVOTION – MATTHEW 25:1-13

OFFERING

Offerings may be given on-line at tithe.ly/risensavior, mailed to the church, or dropped off at the church.

Our members have joined together in faith and love to do the Lord’s work in this community and around the world.  Guests need not feel obligated to participate in this offering which supports our ministry.

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH

O Lord, preserve Your people from believing that You are pleased with us because of our works or ceremonies.

Grant that what we do in worship and prayer may proclaim salvation in Christ Jesus alone.

Lord God, You bestow favor and honor and withhold nothing from those who walk uprightly.

Bless parents and those who teach children Your ways, that generations to come would love Your promises, walk in Your truth and dwell in Your house.

Heavenly Father, show mercy to those who cry aloud as they await Your Son’s coming in glory.  Thank you for protecting those students and staff at Luther Prep School in Watertown, WI this week when someone fleeing police was killed on campus.

Answer them with strength and healing, comfort and hope. Make them confident in Christ, who will raise His people on the Last Day.

O Lord, Your Son will descend from heaven with a cry of command, raise those who have fallen asleep and deliver us to Your kingdom of glory.

Until that day, strengthen us and prepare us for His coming in glory.

God of our salvation, we know neither the day nor the hour of Christ’s return, but that He died and rose to open heaven to all believers. Do not let us be caught unprepared; through the same Jesus, who taught us to pray…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

PRAYER

O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, you have brought us safely to this new day. Defend us with your mighty power, and grant that this day we neither fall into sin nor run into any kind of danger. And in all we do, direct us to what is right in your sight; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord.

Amen.

Let us praise the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

The grace of our Lord T Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Amen.
