Risen Savior Lutheran Church background

October 18 online worship

Everything you need to join for October 18 online worship.

Preparations for Worship:

  • Do your best to eliminate distractions like the phone, TV, etc.
  • Worship actively! Whether you are by yourself or with others, try reading the parts of the service aloud (responses, lessons, and prayers).
  • This service is for children too. Help them participate. Ask those who have that ability to read a prayer or lesson aloud. Take a moment to describe what’s happening. Ask questions. Encourage little ones to draw what they are hearing while you all listen. Unlike our more typical Sunday worship at church, you can pause at any time for questions and discussion.
  • Before you begin, load each of the videos below. (You might first have to get past a distracting ad.)
  • Pause for a moment of quiet meditation. Then pray:
“Heavenly Father, I have come to worship you. Draw near to me in your gracious Word, and assure me of your loving kindness. Curb my wandering thoughts, that with undivided attention I may hear your voice and speak your praise. Through Jesus Christ. Amen.”

CONFESSION OF SINS AND FORGIVENESS

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Beloved in the Lord: let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins to God our Father, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness.

Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given his only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by his authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son (+) and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Almighty God, in your bountiful goodness keep us safe from every evil of body and soul. Make us ready, with cheerful hearts, to do whatever pleases you; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

LESSON – ISAIAH 5:1-7

Let me sing my loved one a song about his vineyard.  My loved one had a vineyard on a fertile ridge.  2He dug it up and gathered the stones out of it.  He planted it with the choicest vines and built a tower in the middle of it.  He even cut a wine press into it.  He expected it to produce clusters of grapes, but it produced only sour grapes.  3“So now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard.  4What more could have been done to my vineyard that I have not already done for it?  When I expected it to produce clusters of grapes, why did it produce sour grapes?  5Now let me tell you what I will do to my vineyard.  I will take away its hedge, and it will become pasture.  I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled down.  6I will make it a wasteland.  It will not be pruned or hoed, so briers and thorns will shoot up.  I will also command the clouds not to pour rain on it.”  7Yes, the vineyard of the Lord of Armies is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are the planting that pleased him.  He expected justice, but there was oppression.  He expected righteousness, but there was an outcry.

2 CORINTHIANS 6:1-13

As fellow workers we also urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain. 2For he says: At a favorable time I listened to you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.  Look, now is the favorable time! See, now is the day of salvation!  3We are giving no one a reason to stumble in any way, so that our ministry will not be blamed. 4Rather, in every way we show ourselves to be God’s ministers: in great endurance, in troubles, in hardships, in difficulties, 5in beatings, in imprisonments, in riots, in hard work, in sleepless nights, in times of hunger; 6in purity, in knowledge, in patience, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in sincere love, 7in the word of truth, in the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness on the right and on the left; 8through glory and dishonor, through bad report and good report; treated as deceivers yet being honest, 9treated as unknown and yet being well known; as dying, and yet look—we live; as punished yet not put to death; 10as grieving yet always rejoicing; as poor yet making many rich; as having nothing yet possessing everything. 11We have spoken to you openly, Corinthians. Our heart is standing wide open. 12We have plenty of room for you, but you do not have room for us in your affections. 13I am speaking as to my children: In exchange, open your hearts wide too.

DEVOTION – MATTHEW 21:33-43

CONFESSION OF FAITH – NICENE CREED

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became fully human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.  Amen.

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH

Heavenly Father, through Your Son, Jesus Christ, You have given Your Church the authority on earth to forgive sins.

Grant that we may always rejoice to receive the forgiveness announced by those men who have been called and ordained to serve in Christ’s stead and by His command, and, having been forgiven, give us hearts that are quick to forgive others.

Rooted in Christ, our chief cornerstone, we can endure all things.. May your gracious Spirit fill us with courage and boldness to say something about what you have already done for us when you provide opportunities to speak..

Open our hearts, minds, and ears to be attentive messengers of Good News.. Thank you for this wonderful privilege.

Heavenly Father, thank you for giving our churches in the United States the opportunity to share the gospel with so many people groups.. Today we ask you to bless our ministry efforts focused on reaching and serving Hispanic neighbors.. Bless our national church body’s production of Spanish Bible studies, meditations, worship opportunities, and other resources of the Cristo Palabra de Vida (Christ, The Word of Life) program..

According to your gracious will, bring many people to faith in Jesus and lead those who are already Christians to better understand and believe all that Scripture teaches.

Eternal Father, we bring before You in prayer all those suffering in any physical and mental anguish.

According to Your will, grant them healing in this life, and let them face the trials of this life confident in Your love.

Whatever else that we need or would be good for us, we entrust to Your bountiful providence, for You live and reign with the Son and the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

THE LORD’S BLESSING

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace. Amen.
