Risen Savior Lutheran Church background

November 29 online worship

Everything needed to worship on November 29 online worship.

Preparations for Worship:

  • Do your best to eliminate distractions like the phone, TV, etc.
  • Worship actively! Whether you are by yourself or with others, try reading the parts of the service aloud (responses, lessons, and prayers).
  • This service is for children too. Help them participate. Ask those who have that ability to read a prayer or lesson aloud. Take a moment to describe what’s happening. Ask questions. Encourage little ones to draw what they are hearing while you all listen. Unlike our more typical Sunday worship at church, you can pause at any time for questions and discussion.
  • Before you begin, load each of the videos below. (You might first have to get past a distracting ad.)
  • Pause for a moment of quiet meditation. Then pray:
“Heavenly Father, I have come to worship you. Draw near to me in your gracious Word, and assure me of your loving kindness. Curb my wandering thoughts, that with undivided attention I may hear your voice and speak your praise. Through Jesus Christ. Amen.”

GATHERING RITE ON THE WORD OF GOD

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.

Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, For they are ever with me.

I have more insight than all my teachers. For I meditate on your statutes.

How sweet are your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth!

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness,

So that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Yet so often we have despised God’s Word and failed to gladly hear and learn it.  For this and all our sins, we bow before God and humbly ask his forgiveness.

Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions.  I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good.  For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity.  But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

God gave his Word so, “that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”  The Scriptures testify about Jesus, who lived a perfect life for you, died on the cross to pay for all your sins, and rose again to assure you of your salvation.  Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by his authority , I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

LESSON – 1 THESSALONIANS 4:13-18

We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who have fallen asleep, so that you do not grieve in the same way as the others, who have no hope. 14 Indeed, if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, then in the same way we also believe that God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep through Jesus.

15 In fact, we tell you this by the word of the Lord: We who are alive and left until the coming of the Lord will certainly not go on ahead of those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds together with them, to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore, encourage one another with these words.

GOSPEL – MARK 8:1-13

In those days, when there was again a large crowd and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples and said to them, “I feel compassion for the crowd because they have already stayed with me three days and do not have anything to eat. If I send them home hungry, they will faint on the way. Some of them have come from a long distance.”  His disciples replied, “Where can anyone get enough bread to feed these people here in this deserted place?”  He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?”  “Seven,” they said.

He commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves, gave thanks, and broke them. He gave the pieces to his disciples to distribute to the crowd, and they did so. They also had a few small fish. He blessed them and said that these should be distributed as well. The people ate and were satisfied. They picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. About four thousand men were there. Then he sent them away. 10 Right after that, Jesus got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.  11 The Pharisees came and began to argue with him. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven. 12 He sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Amen I tell you: No such sign will be given to this generation.” 13 After he left them and got back into the boat, he crossed to the other side.

DEVOTION – HABAKKUK 3:1-7

CONFESSION – APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.  He descended into hell.  The third day he rose again from the dead.  He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.  From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH

To You, O Lord, we lift up our souls and in You we put our trust. Do not let us be ashamed of our hope but come quickly.

Sustain us by Your Holy Spirit, that we may have joy at the advent of Christ, our Savior.

Gracious Lord, enrich Your saints in every way as we enter another Church Year. Encourage the preachers of Your Word and all who hear, that the testimony about Christ may be confirmed again among us.

As You have called us into the fellowship of Your Son, so sustain us as we wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Almighty God, be with the governing authorities and enable them to preserve peace and order in our nation. Hear our prayers for our president; our governor; our military and police; and other civil servants as well as all newly elected officials.

Increase a spirit of unity and cooperation among the people of our land and the nations of the world.

Compassionate Lord, behold in mercy all who are in any danger, trouble, sickness or need. Especially we pray for Nancy Rongstad who undergoes surgery tomorrow.  Hear our prayers for the sick and suffering. Give health to our world and bring the pandemic to an end.

Comfort all who mourn, and sustain them with a confident hope in the resurrection.

Lord of love who enables us to care for all people, we praise you for the opportunities we have to reflect your love through WELS Christian Aid and Relief.. Give us, your people, the means to support their work, and give WELS Christian Aid and Relief the wisdom to administer assistance to those in need..

Lead those who receive aid not only to see the help we are giving them for their earthly needs, but also to know the love of Christ that provides for their spiritual and eternal welfare.

Into Your hands, Father, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who taught us to pray…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

THE LORD’S BLESSING

Brothers and sisters, go in peace.  Live in harmony with one another.  Serve the Lord with gladness. The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace. Amen.
