Risen Savior Lutheran Church background

July 18 online worship

he called the twelve

Everything you need for July 18 online worship.

Preparations for Worship:

  • Do your best to eliminate distractions like the phone, TV, etc.
  • Worship actively! Whether you are by yourself or with others, try reading the parts of the service aloud (responses, lessons, and prayers).
  • This service is for children too. Help them participate. Ask those who have that ability to read a prayer or lesson aloud. Take a moment to describe what’s happening. Ask questions. Encourage little ones to draw what they are hearing while you all listen. Unlike our more typical Sunday worship at church, you can pause at any time for questions and discussion.
  • Before you begin, load each of the videos below. (You might first have to get past a distracting ad.)
  • Pause for a moment of quiet meditation. Then pray:
“Heavenly Father, I have come to worship you. Draw near to me in your gracious Word, and assure me of your loving kindness. Curb my wandering thoughts, that with undivided attention I may hear your voice and speak your praise. Through Jesus Christ. Amen.”

CONFESSION OF SINS AND FORGIVENESS

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Beloved in the Lord: let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins to God our Father, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness.

Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given his only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by his authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son (+) and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Almighty God, we thank you for planting in us the seed of your Word. By your Holy Spirit help us to receive it with joy and to bring forth fruits in faith and hope and love; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

LESSON – AMOS 7:10-17

10Then Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent a message to Jeroboam king of Israel: Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to endure all of his words. 11This is what Amos says: “Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel will certainly go into exile away from its own soil.”  12Then Amaziah said to Amos, “You seer, get out of here! Flee to the land of Judah. You may eat food and prophesy there. 13But you must never again prophesy at Bethel, for it is the sanctuary of the king and the national temple.” 14Then Amos responded to Amaziah: I was not a prophet, nor was I a son of a prophet. Rather, I was a sheep breeder and I took care of sycamore fig trees. 15But the Lord took me from tending flocks, and the Lord said to me, “Go, prophesy to my people Israel.” 16But now, hear the word of the Lord, you who are saying, “Do not prophesy against Israel” and “Do not preach against the house of Isaac.”  17This is what the Lord says: “Your wife will be a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword. Your land will be parceled out with a measuring line, and as for you, you will die upon unclean soil. And Israel will certainly go into exile far away from its own soil.”

LESSON – 1 TIMOTHY 3:1-7

This saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to become an overseer, he desires a noble task. 2It is necessary, then, for the overseer to be above reproach, the husband of only one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3not a drunkard, not a violent man but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4It is necessary that he manage his own household well, with all dignity making sure that his children obey him. 5(If a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of God’s church?) 6He must not be a recent convert, or he might become conceited and fall into the same condemnation as the Devil. 7In addition, he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he may not fall into disgrace and the Devil’s trap.

DEVOTION – MARK 6:7-13

CONFESSION OF FAITH – NICENE CREED

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became fully human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.  Amen.

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH

We give thanks to You, heavenly Father, for Your compassion shown in Christ Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep and the righteous Son of David.

Keep us trusting at all times in Your right hand, in whom true satisfaction is found.

We give thanks to You, heavenly Father, that You have built one Holy Church on the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Christ Himself as our cornerstone. Grant unity to Your Church on earth through the work of Your Spirit and the faithful proclamation of Christ’s reconciling cross.

As You tore down the dividing wall of hostility between Jew and Gentile in Christ, so heal all divisions of doctrine or pride on earth, even as Your Church is one before Your throne.

Lord, we thank you for the gifts, the planning, and the work that has allowed our national church body to open seven new missions around the country. We ask you to continue to bless these churches with dedicated called workers and faithful members who will share the gospel of Jesus with many others.

Open hearts to hear, believe, and confess your saving truth.

We give thanks to You, heavenly Father, that You have brought us from many families into the household of God.

Continue to bless all Christian homes, that fathers and mothers may faithfully lead their children by word and deed to call upon You as Father.

We give thanks to You, heavenly Father, for Your constant care and all we need to support this body and life. Attend in mercy to those in need among us especially Nancy Rongstad as she recovers from her procedure this past week.

Free them from dismay and fear by the certainty that Christ is their righteousness.

All these things and whatever else You know that we need, grant us, Father, for the sake of Him who taught us to pray…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

THE LORD’S BLESSING

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace. Amen.
